"Paddle sports" is (unfortunately) not the first thing that pops into folk's minds when they think about New Mexico and outdoor adventure. The funny thing is, we've got ample opportunity right here in our own backyard (and plenty more around the state).

OUR TOP 5 PLACES TO PADDLE NEAR ALBUQUERQUE

1. The Rio Grande - 550 to Rio Vista park, This is our go-to float trip when we want to get out of the office. 4 miles, ~2 hours. For a longer adventure, skip down to the Alameda take-out (11 miles total). Put in on the East side of the 550 bridge (there is a dirt parking area) and walk  about 50 yards to the river. Take out just after the second large bluff on river right (for Rio Vista), or at the Alameda boat ramp (also on river right).

2. Sandia Lakes - We offer paddling on Wednesday Nights, throughout the summer in conjunction with Meetup.com kayak and SUP groups. 2 hours 5:30-7:30 PM. Paid Entry

3. Cochiti Lake - Just a short drive north of Albuquerque lies this wonderful lake surrounded by the natural landscape. This is a great place to shake off the work week, paddle, fish, and take the whole family.

4. The Rio Grande- Algodones to 550. This is a great section of river that highlights the riparian habitat along the Rio Grande. This section we enjoy immensely for the bird watching. 6 river miles, ~2 hours. turn onto a dirt road leading to drainage ditch, put in below the dam! Take out just after the 550 Bridge, river left.

5. Fenton Lake- Tucked up in the Jemez Mountains, this lake is 30 acres in size and a great way to beat the heat of summer.
