Mountain, Stream, and Trail (MST) Adventures was founded to share our passion of the outdoors with others through guided trips, skills courses, equipment rental, and community events.
MST Adventures offers guided kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) trips of the Rio Grande, and guided snowshoeing. In addition to our guided trips we offer skills clinics and lessons for Kayaking, SUP, and Photography.
Our skills clinics and lesson can be private or semi-private based on the needs of of our clients. When it comes to equipment rentals we have you covered on the water and off, with our snowshoe rentals, SUP rentals, and whitewater kayak rentals.
We support the outdoor community through the sponsorship of special events like the Sandia Snowshoe Race, memberships with local clubs like the Albuquerque Mountain Bike Association (AMBA) and the Adobe Whitewater Club of New Mexico. MST Adventures also supports several national organizations that support rivers across the country, including American Whitewater, and the Outdoor Alliance. We employ and teach using Leave No Trace Ethics and other environmentally friendly practices as set out by the American Canoe Association (ACA) and the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) during our classes and guided trips.

New for 2018, Guided Snowshoe Tours
MST Adventures offers small group, guided snowshoe tours starting in January 2018, under special permit of the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands. We are the only commercial guide service permitted to offer this type of specialty tour in the Sandia's!
Our group snowshoe experience offers excellent guide to client ratio not to exceed 5:1. The tours include snowshoes, trekking poles, and our interpretive guide. We have tours of various lengths for all fitness abilities and can accommodate kids through adults.
Are you in town on business or pleasure? We offer private guided snowshoe trips of various lengths as well. Give us a call and let us know what your thinking, as to time allotments, distance and your fitness level.
Why choose a guided tour over stand alone snowshoe rentals? Our guided tour offers so much more than a follow the leader hike down the trail. We take our time experiencing the natural history of our area, listening to the local birds, and sharing this with you. We are happy to share our tips and tricks to staying warm in the backcountry, food preparation, and winter camping.
Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Tours
Stand Up Paddling has been used by cultures around the world for over 3000 years for fishing, hunting, transportation, and recreation. Modern SUP designs make for a stable platform to enjoy your time on the water. All SUP tours include introductory instruction from a professional guide, all necessary paddling equipment (including a dry bag for spare clothes, phone, and keys), refreshments, and a unique and beautiful tour through the Middle Rio Grande Valley. Adjustable paddles allow users to stand, sit, or kneel on the boards for comfort and stability. At the end of the day, we bring you back to your vehicles and our guides clean up the equipment. As we progress down the river we will take in the natural sounds and wildlife along the way. Truly a fantastic, fun, and cost-effective way to enjoy the beauty of Albuquerque.

The outdoors is our passion and we want to share it with you. We carry high-quality equipment available for you to use whenever, wherever.
Equipment for Hire
We understand that while good equipment doesn't make the experience, bad equipment can certainly detract from it! At MST Adventures we only carry high quality equipment that we want to use. You won't find anything on our shelves from Kohls, like you can at some of our competitors. If you need something that isn't listed below, give us a call - there's a good chance we have it.
The only thing worse than not having a piece of gear you need, is having to wait around for one. All of our rentals can be picked up the evening before and returned the morning after your rental period - at no extra cost. Need some snowshoes for the weekend? Pick 'em up on Friday, bring them back Monday, and only pay for Saturday and Sunday. Give us a call at (505) 717-2526 to set up your next adventure!

Sandia Lakes Weekly Lessons
Have you always wanted to try kayaking or SUP (stand up paddleboarding), meet new friends, and develop a sense of accomplishment that comes with new experiences? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Samdia Lakes is the place to get started.
We offer weekly Introductory classes and exploration experiences for stand up paddleboarding and kayaking at Sandia Lakes Recreation Area every Wednesday evening (5:30-7:30pm) from April through September. Sandia Lakes will be open to canoes, kayaks, SUPs, rafts, and just about anything with paddles. Entry to Sandia Lakes is just $8. We have Stand Up Paddleboards and whitewater kayaks available for rent and free to try.
Our ACA-certified instructors offer low-cost 2-hour introductory paddling lessons each week by reservation. These lessons will teach you everything you need to know to be a safe and effective paddler on flat and gently-moving water. Introductory lessons include the cost of a kayak or SUP rental. We also offer lessons on learning the kayak roll. For this we recommend the participants already have their own kayak as proper fit and outfitting make a large difference when learning to roll. Reserve your lesson by calling us at (505)-717-2526 or using the button below.
Instruction with MST Adventures
Learning new skills and building confidence is hard to do on your own. It's too easy to develop bad habits that can make it difficult to become efficient, or worse cause injury from improper movement. Our guides are highly trained and experienced with certifications and/or accreditation, from national and international bodies, in their chosen specialty.
In outdoor activities like kayaking and SUP, there are two types of learning participants go through - skills practice and experiential education. Our courses are designed to provide the best of both. Introductory courses and lessons focus more on technical skill building, but also include plenty of practice and problem solving. Intermediate and advanced lessons build from there focusing on more difficult real-world situations and learning the skills required to take you to the next level.
Any group lesson topic can be taken as private instruction. Give us a call at (505) 717-2526, or click below to sign up today!

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose MST Adventures for your gear rental?
MST Adventures offers high quality equipment that has proven itself over and over. We rent only the gear that we trust will provide a positive and unique experience for you. From our MSR Snowshoes to our NRS Life Jackets, our gear is tuff as nails.
Why choose MST Adventures for instructional classes and private lessons?
MST Adventures' guides are nationally certified instructors in their sports and/or have extensive experience in that particular activity. Some guide/instruction services flaunt x-number of years for each of their guides, but lump in unrelated experience (zipline guiding for raft guides, for example). Our guides and instructors are highly experienced not only in their activity, but in instruction as well. Our guides hold multiple certifications from the ACA, IMBA, are active participants at the competitive level and award-winning.
What should I bring with me?
Whether you are taking a biking class, a water based class, or just picking up a rental, you should always plan for the weather by dressing in layers; in addition to packing plenty of high energy snacks, water, and sunscreen. Each class and activity will list required equipment based on the discipline and activity level.
I am interested getting better at Mountain Biking, do you rent bikes?
We do not rent bikes, but we do recommend several bike shops if you are looking for a new or rental bike. Give us a call and we will direct you to a bike shop that we trust for price, customer service, and gear.
Classes and Instruction:
How physically fit should I be for my class?
That is a great question. We like address these topics in the class description, look for the Duration, Distance, and Time. We also like to use a 1-5 scale for fitness, 1- being someone who doesn't actively work out, while 5 – is someone who is an Ironman.
I am interested in learning to Kayak/Stand-Up Paddle Board, but I have never Kayaked/SUP’ed before, do you have a class I can take?
We do offer entry level classes, for flat and whitewater kayaking, and flat water and moving water SUP. These classes are offered at Sandia Lakes Recreation Area, every Wednesday Evening, and on limited weekend days throughout the summer. We rent a limited number of kayaks, and SUP’s. Reach out to use and let’s discuss what the best option is; and location for your learning style.
I signed up for a SUP/ Kayak Class, how should I dress?
We often suggest dressing to be wet. Chances are that on your first experience you will get fairly wet; after all it is a water sport. So dress in non-cotton clothes that are fast to dry. In the spring and fall we suggest that you wear polypropylene long johns or fleece type clothing. In the summer a bathing suit is applicable, with a change of clothes, to change into when you’re done along with a bath towel to dry off and warm up. Our water is mostly snow melt so it can be fairly chilly.
I am interested getting better at Mountain Biking, do you work with beginners?
MST Adventures loves beginners! Our mountain biking classes are structured for the novice rider. We start with a fundamental skills class which evolves into riding on trails, trail etiquette, and common bike maintenance topics.
I am interested getting better at Mountain Biking, do I need suspension?
MST Adventures believes that you can become an awesome mountain biker with a Huffy. We will teach you the skills and techniques need to become comfortable on your bike and on the trails.
Do you take credit cards?
You bet. We use Square readers and can take Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. Learn more about square here.
If you have a question that is not on this list please reach out to us and we will be happy to help you. Call 505-717-2526 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

Andrew Hamm-“I have used MST for both kayak instruction and a hiking guide. They were both great trips and Corey is extremely knowledgeable on all things outdoors. I left with more information that I could have imagined, as well as a greater comfortability while being on the river. They were professional and organized. I look forward to planning another trip with these great guys.”
Dan Gottesfeld-“Every one of my Whitewater Kayaking experiences with the MST team has exceeded my expectations. I've worked with one of the owners, Corey Spoores, over the last six months to develop my kayaking skills and I couldn't have asked for a better instructor. As a beginner, I worked extensively with Corey at both pool and lake sessions to develop my Kayaking fundamentals as well as open water day trips within New Mexico on class II-III rapids. Corey's expertise, patience, humor and unwavering support makes the sport incredibly enjoyable, especially for beginners. Corey is a committed teacher and coach; his love for the outdoors is contagious- I can't wait continue our work together and take some mountain biking instruction from them. MST's rates are very competitive and they consistently deliver great value on all of their services.”
